When you join a league for the first time, there's a whole lot of questions on the " How To's " and " What Is That ".
Here are the answers to the most common questions that new players ask. If you have a question that is not answered here, comment or addition to this page, please use our comments form. |
| What are bux? |
Bux are just fake money you use to enter tournaments. When you sign up for a league there is a step that you can check boxes to receive ladder bux to start out with. As you enter tournaments the entry fee will be deducted from your league account and when you win they will be added. If you run low on bux there are a few ways you can obtain more.
1) Each time you click a advertisement the myleague gaming site you will receive 2 ladder bux.
2) You can ask a player that has a premium membership to gift you some.
3) This first match you play each day on a ladder credits your account 2 ladder bux for a regular membership. Premium memberships receive more.
4) By withdrawing from the league and rejoining, but you will lose all you game statistics. |
| What can I use the bux for that I win? |
| Bux can be redeemed for gifts, to help out other league members that need them ( if you have a premium account that allows you to gift them) and you can donate them for a tournament prize if you become a host. |
| What does B.O.S. and T.O.C mean? |
B.O.S. stand for the Battle Of the Sexes. There are usually 2 separate tournaments for this, a ladies and a men's. They are held separately, then the 2 winners play a match.
T.O.C. is the Tournament Of Champions. If you win a tournament in your league within a certain time frame ( usually each month ) you will be automatically entered in it when the tournament is set up. All you will have to do is check-in and play. |
| What is a host? |
| A host or tournament director is a volunteer that that organizes and runs the tournament's. |
| What does the tournament calendar tell me? |
|
The tournament calendar provides you with information about the tournament.
Each tournament on the calendar will be shown in a specific color.

At the top underlined in yellow you will see the time when the tournament is to be held ( all the tournaments are in Eastern Standard Time ) and the person's league name that will be directing the tournament. This is also a link to the tournament's main page. You can use this link to enter the tournament from the menu on the main tournament page and also get other information about it.
The jump number is the tournament identification number. Each tournament has its own number. ( the numbers in the images are just examples ) |
There are 2 formats that are most commonly used, they are 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2. A 1 vs 1 tournament is played heads up, you play against a single opponent and 2 vs 2 tournaments are team tournaments. You and a partner play against a opponents and there partner.
The cost to enter a tournament can be from 0 to 100 ladder bux ( fake money ). The director sets this when they set the tournament. The "L" just stands for ladder stats. If you win or lose a match it will change your ladder stats. On the same line you will see register, check-in or finished. If the tournament shows register, you can enter the tournament but you have to go to the tournament page to check-in after the director opens it. When it shows check-in the host has already opened check-in and you can enter for this tournament. Finished means that the tournament is already played and is closed.
When a player wins the tournament there league name will be shown on the calendar once the director closes the tournament.

| What are the different tournament types? |
| In a S/E or single elimination tournament, you have one chance to advance to the next pairing. |
| A D/E or Double Elimination tournament gives you 2 chances to win. There are a upper and a lower bracket in this tournament. Every player starts out in the upper bracket. If a player wins a match they advance to the next pairing the upper bracket. When a player loses they are placed in the lower bracket along with another player that loses there match. You will have a chance to play again. The player that wins the match in the lower bracket will advance. The tournament will continue in the same manor until all players are eliminated but one. |
There are 2 different types of swiss tournaments.
In a true swiss all the players that enter the tournament will play every round regardless of there win and loss record. The amount of rounds are determined by the host when they set the tournament. The winner of this tournament is the player with the most wins.
A regular swiss tournament can be set to a specific amount of rounds also. The players will play each round until there is a winner. As a example if there are 4 players in the tournament and it is set for 6 rounds, it is possible to have a winner after the second round. |
| How do i enter a tournament using the enter tournament box on the main league page? |
 |
| When you are getting ready to enter a tournament the host will usually say a jump number. A jump number is just a unique number that identifies that particular tournament. Just enter that number in to the box that says jump number. Then enter your league name and password. Hit the enter button once you are done and it will take you to the tournament page. On the tournament page you will see the following information : |

| How do I enter a Teams Tournaments? |
 |
Most of the process is the same as entering a regular tournament. The only difference is that you will see a Team Name field and a Team Password Field.
Teams tournament is a tournament in which there is more than one person on each team in a league match.
The captain of the team will be the first person to register. They have to create a Team Name and Team Password.
The other team member uses them to join the correct team when registering for the tournament.
The Team Name and Password can be anything you like and should be appropriate for general viewing. Once the name and password are created and you found a partner for this tournament the team captain will tell the team name and password to there partner. There are several ways to do this. You can use a chat whisper, Instant Messenger or give the password to your partner in a private chat so they can join your team.
When you click the Enter Button on the league page, it will direct you to the tournament page. There is further information on this page if you have any questions.
If it is a random teams tournament you would enter the tournament using the first example above. Then the gaming site will pick the teams randomly.
All Teams Tournaments must have at least 8 players entered. |
| What is a ladder match and how do I report the match? |
 |
Ladder Matches are just league matches against fellow league members that are not playing in a regular tournament. For instance if you are in a game room that your league plays it's games in and you just want to challenge a certain player, you could ask them if they would want to ladder. Once you agree on the rules for the game your playing, you play a match one on one. The player that loses the match reports the loss on your league site.
The admin on your league determine the amount of ladder matches between the same players per day. Ladder matches are a way to increase your current ranking in on your league. Players current rankings can be viewed by going to the LADDER menu then standings. A page will open that has many statistics about your league. Choose the center drop box ( View Ranks ) then All Active Players from the drop down menu. Hit the display button. When the page loads you can find your current league standing by looking for your ladder name on the list.
If you challenge a player or they challenge you to a match and you do not win the match, here's how to report the loss. First enter you league name and password then the opponents league name. The comments box is not a required field. If you want to make a comment you could put the game and room name were the match was played or a message to your opponent. Once you complete all the fields then click the report button.
A new page will load showing the match results. |
| What is a Formal Challenge? |
A formal challenge is pretty much the same as a ladder match except that instead of challenging a opponent in a game room chat, you do it through filling out a form that is e-mailed to the player.
Also there are a few different rules that apply to the formal challenge.
They are :
If you are involved in a formal challenge and your opponent is available to play, you must play them.
You have to be within a certain rank range to use a formal challenge.
The league admin's can determine the range.
You can only participate in one formal challenge at a time weather your the challenger or the challenged player.
You may not challenge the same player twice in a row for a certain period of time.
You only have a set number of days to complete the challenge.
If you fail to complete your formal challenge, both players will receive a failure in their records. An accumulation of three failures will result in penalties. There will also be a permanent note made on the players records. Once you have completed the challenge and report the results you can play in another formal challenge.
League members in the top ten can challenge any other member of the top ten that are ranked higher than them. League members above the top ten are limited to challenge only half the distance from their current rank. An example of this would be if your current rank is 30 you may only challenge a player that is ranked from 15 to 29.
Challenging a player that is ranked lower than you is not allowed. |
