TD: HOW DO THOSE LETTERS DESCRIBE YOU AS A HOST?
There is more to being a TD than filling in the basic tour sheet and handling the scoring. If you find that other hosts are filling their tours every time while you are simply hoping to get the basic four jumpers to avoid canceling, you may want to ask yourself, What kind of TD am I? Put yourself in the members' shoes for a minute and see which answer you come up with.

TD(Terribly Dull): You avoid variation to the extreme. The league you host for may be a multi-game league but no one could tell it from your tours! You do one game only and you never offer variations of the rules. Members may request other games but most of them require token counts and time keeping and you simply can't be bothered. You want a simple game with a winner and a loser posted at the end of each round and cut the chatter please. Your tour pages are as black and white as the games you host. You find yourself sitting alone in Lottso while other hosts get the jumpers.

TD(Timidly Demure): You have the desire to be a good host but you're afraid of trying anything new. After all, there are members who frown on change. The idea of promoting your tour has never occurred to you because you don't want to appear pushy. You have a basic set of rules but are easily swayed to change them depending on the circumstances and the forcefulness of the member questioning them. You bend the rules often in an effort to keep everyone happy but in the end no one is happy because they see no uniformity in your tours and a lack of leadership. Every team needs a strong leader to keep things fair and make the honest achievements of the wins. You fail to stand your ground and you jump whenever someone questions your decisions. In the end, you are the only one left jumping.

TD(TERRIFICALLY DARING): You don't host a tour, you put on an extravaganza! You realize that being an on-line host offers special challenges and you go all out to entertain your members. You know the importance of visual aides in an on-line atmosphere and you make sure your members have fun before they even get to the tour. Your tour sheets are reflective of your tour in some way. You take advantage of all the great free tour designs offered on-line and you also create your own when necessary. You tour in many different games and often ask for requests or opinions from your members. You know the league rules and you abide by them. You bring fun, personality and friendliness to your tours but at the same time you bring an air of authority and confidence. You will listen to differences in opinion if they arise but in the end you make the final judgment and you expect your members to abide by it. You bring personal touches to your tours as much as you can. Remembering and using a members' real name (if they prefer that) is one way to make them feel special. You pay attention to things they say and you hold special tours for events they may be celebrating such as birthdays, anniversaries, weight loss, etc. If it is special to them you make it special to you and you gain a fan of your tours. In a room full of a dozen members you take every opportunity to make each one of them feel individually special. You laugh with them but never at them and at the same time you show that you have the ability to laugh at yourself. You not only have your tours full in advance... many times you will have members gathering around you during non-tour times as you play privately in a room. Spur-of-the moment tours are common with you simply because you always seem to have at least four members around you at all times.

Have you spotted yourself in one of these categories or do you have a category unto yourself? If you spotted yourself in either of the first two categories, do you wish to make an improvement? If so, I hope you have found a few ideas to make that happen for you. You represent your league at all times when you are on the game site. Be aware of how you do and say things even when you aren't hosting. A league is only as good as their hosts and I hope you will raise the bar and make your league outstanding! Good luck.
